Though his folk roots do show through, particularly in Among The Gorse, Among The Grey and with Joel Zifkin’s fiddle playing

His song writing is as acute as ever dealing with serial killers, bankers and self-righteous millionaires. He also takes time out to bid a heartfelt farewell to some old friends in A Brother Slips Away.

It’s a striking album performed with vim and passion, at his age he should know better. Thankfully he doesn’t.
