It’s funny how random memories drift into your mind. Some years ago, after business trip to Osaka, I’d taken the train over to Kyoto.

The plan was to get up early and do some sight-seeing before going on to Tokyo.

I stayed at a traditional Ryokan. Checked in late but I was served a meal by the daughter who came by after and asked if I would like to talk. She was about 20 and wrapped in a kimono, I couldn’t really see her figure except that it was slim. But she had a very pretty face.

After an hour or so she got up and said goodnight. Her body left but her face stayed with me most of the night. I had to imagine the rest. In the morning she was leaving for college just as I set out. “I hope you stay with us next time you come to Kyoto,” she smiled.
