In response to the numerous e-mails I have recieved, yes, it is still safe to visit Thailand. I arrived there the day after the coup and everything seemed calm and quiet. The most unusual thing was the number of people that were wearing yellow t-shirts in support of the King (yellow is the Kings birth colour), and by extension, the military. Go along to the administrative district and have your photo taken next to a tank.
It remains to be seen how well the unpopular 2.00am closing time law holds up.
